Abstract

The aim of this paper is to reflect on the configurations of contemporary youth worlds under the intellectual legacy of Rogelio Marcial. Specifically, it explores Marcial’s (2021) proposal about the socio-political and affective recognition of and towards the diverse ways in which youth identifications are constituted from the (dis)articulations between their own vital experiences and those imposed by the adult-centric character, in order to understand their heterogeneous sociocultural realities in the framework of a global and local context characterized by the proliferation of violence and social inequalities.Throughout his career as an academic and social science scholar, Marcial made significant contributions to the understanding of the worlds of youth in Mexico. Through various lines of research, Marcial made extremely valuable contributions by articulating explanatory frameworks between global processes and sociocultural realities. More concretely, in his writings he unveils a pressing need to account for those structures, mechanisms, actors, spaces and junctures that shape the social construction of democracy in Mexico today and that affect the daily lives of millions of young Mexicans (Marcial, 2009; 2012; 2013; 2013; 2015; 2017; 2019; 2021).
