Abstract
This essay aims to address the phenomenon of graffiti in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, with the aim of understanding its meaning and function in the urban context. It is argued that graffiti in Guadalajara should not be considered simply as vandalism, nor as art, but as a legitimate form of social expression that reflects the tensions and conflicts present in society. In this sense, it stands out how graffiti has become an informal and popular communication tool, used by diverse social groups to make injustices visible and claim spaces in the city, together creating an unofficial symbolic dimension: the street.Graffiti in Guadalajara, Mexico, is presented as a form of expression, resistance and complaint rooted in the city. From the youth movements of the 1960s to contemporary feminist collectives, graffiti has evolved as an unofficial means of communication that challenges established norms and makes certain social injustices evident. Therefore, this practive, is not simply vandalism or urban art, but a way of taking the streets, communicating social and political demands, and reminding society the injustices it faces.Downloads
