El caso de Guadalajara, Jalisco, México
Abstract
Abstract: This paper provides a first approach to women's double shift as a problem to be discussed in the context of social development; an issue that has not been adequately addressed by government agendas. It reviews central concepts that contribute to the construction of double shifts, such as the sexual division of labor and the devaluation of unpaid domestic work. In addition, some of the actions taken by the government to mitigate this problem are presented, and some recommendations proposed by feminist economy and feminist theories critical of development are discussed. This paper argues that the gender inequality experienced by women in the domestic sphere and private space has to do with structural aspects; and points out the importance of visibilization and recognition of domestic and care work, as a fundamental part of life. Key words: Double shift, gender inequality, public policy, social developmentDownloads
