Abstract

This review article reports the emerging tensions in the study and understanding of student identities in young people from rural contexts. This research exercise was deployed from the procedures corresponding to the thematic exposition and the analysis transposed to the Latin American and Colombian reality. As findings, the following tensions were recognized: the complexity in the definition of rural student identity; the affectation of the violence of the armed conflict on rural students in Colombian territories; discrimination, exclusion and inequalities of rural youth compared to urban youth, gender issues in rural students and the naturalization of agro-technical training in the rural sector, ignoring their interests. It is concluded that research on youth requires problematizing the realities of rural high school students in order to generate proposals that respond to the needs and particularities that characterize them.
